The Katuuso community receives a free medical clinic

We would like to extend a huge thank you to Alive Medical services for visiting Katuuso last week to perform a medical clinic for the whole community.

Alive provided 5 Doctors, 2 nutritionists, counsellors and lab technicians to ensure that accurate tests for HIV, malaria and other illnesses were performed. The students and community received free medications and health care advice.

School for Life Foundation was pleased to note that the overall health and nutrition of our students has increased significantly since they began at Katuuso Primary School in January.

We look forward to conducting another medical clinic in the near future and teaching the community more about nutrition and health.

Construction of Stage 2 begins at Katuuso

On 1st August, construction for our second phase started at Katuuso Primary and Vocational School and we are currently laying the foundations of 2 classrooms, 2 health rooms, a storage room and a reception area.

Construction is anticipated to last 5 months and will enable us to enroll more children for school in 2012. The community are very excited to see us expand further and of course, provide more jobs to local builders!

Katuuso Primary hosts our first sports day!

Katuuso Primary School was very excited to host its inaugural sports day last week.

Students were excited to march alongside a professional marching band into the sports field and the entire community, parents and friends gathered to watch the festivities. Two tents were set up including one with a full sound system to provide musical interludes throughout the day.

The students are grouped into coloured houses: lions, leopards, elephants and cheetahs. They competed in lots of fun and educational games such a egg and spoon, sack races, relays and carrying water on their heads.

The children and their families received a yummy lunch of beef and rice and an apple at the end of the day which was a wonderful treat for them all before they headed home exhausted on a mini bus!

The entire event ran seamlessly and was organised by our wonderful team of Ugandan staff at Katuuso, a huge achievement and one we are very proud of!

The lions (red team) won the event overall. They were awarded a trophy and the entire community celebrated with lots of dancing.

Special thanks to Sue O'Neill and Graham Taylor from the Pink Umbrella Foundation, who attended the event all the way from Australia. It was a privilege to host you at our school.

The event was fun for all and we look forward to hosting another sports day next year.

UFF's Black Tie & Barefoot Ball 2011 - another huge success!

On behalf of UFF, we would like to thank you for your incredible support of our Black Tie & Barefoot Ball on Saturday night.

The event was a huge success with over 650 enthusiastic guests attending, and we raised just over $100,000!

We are SO excited to be able to begin construction of 2 more classrooms, 2 health rooms and a storage area in August this year. The evening would never have been so successful without the support of our key sponsors: Ridgeview Wines, Coopers, Canadian Club, Coca Cola, Red Bull and all the generous businesses who donated towards our raffle, live and silent auctions.

We would also like to say a massive thank you to all our hard working volunteers for donating your time and energy to the smooth running of the event.

Please check out our awesome new video online at : http://vimeo.com/25561308 and like United Future Foundation on Facebook to stay up to date with the latest news from Katuuso Primary and Vocational School.

Thank you again from the UFF team and Katuuso community for your extraordinary generosity. Our work in Uganda would never be possible without you!

Please don't hesitate to contact us if you have any questions, would like feedback about the project or would like to donate before the end of financial year!

About Us

My photo
School for Life was founded by Dave Everett and Annabelle Chauncy in 2008. Dave studied Development Studies at Macquarie University and Annabelle studied Arts/Law at Sydney University. Together, they have experience in Africa across a wide range of areas, including building, irrigation systems, health, teaching and working with street children. We are inspired by the African way of life and want to make lasting change in Uganda. They are passionate about improving lives, realistic about our goals and aware of the challenges we will face establishing School for Life and Katuuso Primary and Vocational School.
