Tickets to Black Tie & Barefoot Ball on sale NOW!

Tickets to this year's ball are on sale now via the ‘Ball 2012’ tab. Tables are selling quickly so we urge you to purchase tickets today so you don’t miss out.

As you will be aware, there has been a media spotlight on Uganda in the past week, highlighting some of its troubled past and drawing attention to the extreme need which exists for education, infrastructure and utilities across the nation.

School for Life Foundation is a grassroots organisation focused on providing high quality education to Ugandans in rural areas. Funds raised go directly towards Katuuso Primary and Vocational School and are having a positive impact on the entire community through the provision of clean drinking water, nutritious meals, health outreach programs, infrastructure, employment and of course education.

Our work in Uganda is enhancing futures and we need your support to help us continue.

We are in need of donations for raffle and auction prizes so please contact us if you are able to assist.

We can't wait to see you there!

We're excited to deliver some big news this week….

It is with great excitement that we announce the relaunch of UFF as School for Life Foundation.

After three and a half incredible years of being UFF, we have decided to rebrand, giving our name and image a fresh new look. School for Life Foundation is a name which speaks to what we deliver to the Katuuso community: primary and vocational education, food and clean water, health care and employment.

We are delighted to release our new website: www.schoolforlife.org.au. Please visit us there and also like our Facebook page, “School for Life Foundation” to keep up to date with all our latest news! Invite your friends and colleagues to check out our new web pages as well. It is a wonderful way to learn more about our project and to make a donation all year round.

We would like to say a big thank you to Joe Corrigan (Omega Pictures), Ben Colman and the team at Colman Rasic and Identity PR for the hard work they have put into our new image.

Our Black Tie & Barefoot Ball remains the same as every other year (only this year, bigger and better!) Please lock 26th May at The Westin, Sydney into your diaries. The invitations and ticket purchase information will be released online later this week.

As always, we thank you for supporting our work in Uganda and hope you like our new image. Here’s to School for Life Foundation!

January news from Katuuso Primary & Vocational School

There is a lot happening on site at Katuuso as the second stage of construction nears completion and we move into our second year of operation with 120 students.

40 more students were enrolled to attend Katuuso last November and are excited to start school for the very first time on 6th February. This is an opportunity they would not have had without the generosity of our wonderful sponsors.

We have also hired 4 more Ugandan teachers since the school has increased, providing classes to Nursery, Primary 1 and Primary 2 students. We wish our new teachers Olive Namuli, Teo Nalwanga, Edith Nabukenya and Jerome Lule the very best at Katuuso.

We would also like to welcome to the Ugandan team volunteer Davinia Cogan. Davinia will be assisting with the implementation of our vocational training programs with a focus on agriculture, the demonstration plot and cash crops on site.

THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO DONATED TO OUR CHRISTMAS APPEAL!

We have a final total for the Christmas appeal and are very excited with the results. Thanks to your wonderful donations, we are able to purchase:

- 20 piglets

- 18 chickens

- 4 cows

- 45 skipping ropes

- 40 soccer balls

- 13 coloured pencils/paints

- 3 sets of exercise books

- 1 box of apples (a rare and exciting treat for the children. Apples are imported from South Africa and cost $1.00 each. This is a luxury the Katuuso children and their families could never afford.)

- 1 set of new classroom readers and textbooks

- 1 photocopier (huge thank you to Pottinger for this incredible donation. Administration is a huge part of the operations at Katuuso and this will make the jobs of Dave and all the teachers far easier!)

The Christmas appeal can be extended to a general gift appeal for occasions such as birthdays, mothers’ and fathers’ day or just for fun, so please feel free to contact us for more information.

We are extremely grateful for your generous donations and look forward to sending pictures of the gifts being received at school.

CHILD SPONSORSHIP

40 new students starting school on 6th February means we are seeking 40 more child sponsors!

Child sponsorship is $50 per month or $600 outright and covers provision of uniforms, tuition, 3 nutritious meals a day, extracurricular activities and basic health care for the student.

If you are interested in sponsoring a child, please email annabelle@schoolforlife.org.au.

SYDNEY EVENTS - SAVE THE DATE

Preparations for our Black Tie & Barefoot Ball are now underway. Lock 26th May into your diaries as the event promises to be even bigger and better than last year! We will be hosting the ball at The Westin, Martin Place and there will be lots of surprises in store. Tickets will remain the same price as last year - $190 each or $1800 for a table of ten. Please email Annabelle@schoolforlife.org.au to reserve a table. Hurry, this event sells fast!

About Us

My photo
School for Life was founded by Dave Everett and Annabelle Chauncy in 2008. Dave studied Development Studies at Macquarie University and Annabelle studied Arts/Law at Sydney University. Together, they have experience in Africa across a wide range of areas, including building, irrigation systems, health, teaching and working with street children. We are inspired by the African way of life and want to make lasting change in Uganda. They are passionate about improving lives, realistic about our goals and aware of the challenges we will face establishing School for Life and Katuuso Primary and Vocational School.
